Christmas is coming …….
I would like to start by thanking the audience at our recent “Sunday Afternoon at the Movies”. It was a great turnout and we received some wonderful feedback, so much so that “Sunday Afternoon at the Moves II - The Sequel” could be on the cards for next autumn when we will return to Theydon Bois.
As we head towards our busy Christmas programme it is a good time to look back on what a wonderful year it has been so far. Our two summer performances raised over £2,000 for local good causes, we had a wonderful tour to The Netherlands and the honour of performing a concert in the glorious surroundings of the gardens within Westminster Abbey. On top of this I was very moved by the presentations the Band made to mark my 40 years as their Musical Director. I joined the band in September 1968, three months after it was formed, and never did I imagine that I was commencing such a fantastic and life changing journey.
During our recent concert two very important presentations were made. Trombone player, Gary Thwaites, received the ‘Bandsman of the Year’ award for the tireless work he does behind the scenes, and Bb Bass player, Allison Greenwood, received the ‘Spirit of Fairlop’ award (presented in memory of Holly Miller) to recognise the contribution she has made to the Band’s success this year.
We are only able to do what we do due to the tremendous support we get from our supporters. Whether you have a share in our 100 Club, come to concerts or are on our mailing list, we do fully appreciate what you do for us
As we turn our attention to the festive period the Band has its usual busy programme of Concerts and Church services, we are also starting to work on the test piece for our major contest next year. Our preparation for the contest will once again be preceded by a one-day workshop led by Michael Fowles, resident MD of the world famous Foden’s Band.
The centre piece of our Christmas programme will be on Tuesday 17th December when we return to Theydon Bois Village Hall. Tickets for this concert will be available to order via our website from the October 26th and I would suggest you book early as I know we have already had enquiries which could see 50% of the tickets go within the first few days.
Thank you for your continued support.
